Attack, Strength, and Defence, the three melee combat stats. Each of these skills have a different advantage for your combat.
-
"How can Attack help me fight?"
Well, with a low Attack level, most of your hits will be 0's. The higher your attack level becomes, the more often you will hit non 0 hits. -
"What about Strength? How can it help me?"
With a low Strength level, your "max hit" will be fairly low. The higher your strength level becomes, the higher your "max hit" will become. -
"Is there any way that i can be hit less?"
Yes, there is. Here is where Defence comes in. Defence does not help with how you hit, but it helps when you *are* hit. The higher your Defence level becomes, the less you will be hit by an attacker. -
"Can I train Attack, Strength, and Defence at the same time to keep my levels equal?"
Yes, you can. Certain weapons such as scimitars and the abyssal whip have a "controlled" option which gives xp to Attack, Strength, and Defence. -
"Is there any way i could "boost" my Attack Strength or Defence to get extra bonus?"
Yes, there is. In runescape, you can buy or make potions (view our herblore guide to see how), that can give you a temporary boost to any of these stats. The basic potions are the Attack potion, the Stength potion, and the Defence potion. If your still not happy with the bonus they give, you can buy "Super" potions, including the Super Attack potion, Super Strength potion, and the Super Defence potion.
Other potion bonuses are:
Saradomin brew: Temporary Bonus to Defence and Hitpoints, but it also lowers your Attack and Strength.
Zamorak brew: Temporary Bonus to Attack and Strength, but it also lowers your Defence and Hitpoints.
Combat Potion: Temporary Bonus to Attack and Strength.
To learn more about Herblore, check out our herblore guide. -
"Are potions the only way i can receive bonuses?"
No, you can also receive bonus's from prayer. There are 3 different prayer bonus sets that give bonuses, and an extra 2 boosts.
Low combat boosting prayers:Thick Skin - 5% Defence bonus
Burst of Strength - 5% Strength bonus
Clarity of Thought - 5% Attack bonus
Medium combat boosting prayers:
Rock Skin - 10% Defence bonus
Superhuman Strength - 10% Strength bonus
Improved Reflexes - 10% Attack bonus
High combat boosing prayers:
Steel Skin - 15% Defence bonus
Ultimate Strength - 15% Strength bonus
Incredible Reflexes - 15% Attack bonus
Other combat boosting prayers:
Please note that both chivalry and piety require the quest King's Ransom and you must also beat the knight waves (found at the top of camelot castle).
Chivalry - 20% bonus to Defence, 18% bonus to Strength, and 15% bonus to Attack.
Piety - 25% bonus to Defence, 23% bonus to Strength, and 20% bonus to Attack.

"What are "hp" and how do i raise it?"
Hp is an abbreviation of Hitpoints. When you start your account, you will have 10 hitpoints. You can raise your hitpoints by training either attack, strength, defence, magic, or ranged. (too see more about magic and range check our magic and range guides)
-
"Why does my hitpoints go up slower then Attack, Strength, and Defence?"
Well the way hitpoints goes up is quite different. The formula for Attack, Strength, and Defence is - (what you hit) x 4 = (the xp you get). The formula for Hitpoints is (what you hit) x 1.33 = (the xp you get).
Training Methods
Here you have two methods in which you can train.
First off, slayer training (members only). This method goes by combat level, not by Attack/Strength/Defence. (Always use the best armor and weapons you can use/afford)
Training Through Slayer
Levels 3 - 20 combat: Get your slayer tasks from Tureal, the slayer master from Burthrope. (You can teleport to Burthrope games room by using a games necklace)
Levels 20 - 40 combat: Beat the quest Priest in Peril. (See quest guides for guide) Get your slayer tasks from Mazchna, the slayer master from Canifis.
Levels 40 - 70 combat: Get your slayer tasks from Vannaka, the slayer master in Edgeville Dungeon. (You can teleport to Edgeville by using an Amulet of Glory-with a charge of 1+)
Levels 70 - 80 combat: Beat the quest Lost City. (See quest guides for guide) Get your slayer tasks from Chaelder, in Zanaris (The Lost City). (To get into the lost city, you must have a dramen or lunar staff. You weild the staff and walk into the lumbridge shack or if youve started Fairy tale part 2, you can use fairy rings to teleport to Zanaris)
Levels 80 - 100 combat: Beat the quest Smoking Kills. (See quest guides for guide) Get your slayer tasks from Sumona in Pollnivneach. (You can get there by moving your player owned house to Pollnivneach, or by using the magic carpets outside of the shantey pass. You can also walk from the shantey pass.)
Levels 100 - 138 combat: Here, we suggest that you get Karamja 3 gloves, getting a few rings of slayer, or getting lunar magics for NPC contact, as shilo village can be annoying to get to. Get your slayer tasks from Duradel until you have your desired combat.
If you slay long enough, you can get 99 Attack, Strength, Defence, and Hitpoints from slayer.Your second choice is a powertraining method (this training method is for both non-members and members). This method goes by Attack/Strength/Defence levels, and not by combat level. (Again always use the best armour and weapons you can use/afford)

"Why should I train combats wither slayer? Powertraining combat is soo much better xp!"
Well its a simple answer. While powertraining is a tiny bit better xp, you will benefit from slayer more. Slayer can make 500k+ a day at a higher level. Powertraining makes NO or little money. Also, when you are 120 combat with 99 slayer, you can laugh at 130s with 50 slayer. Plus, slayer cape is ownage looking, and 99 slayer makes about 100 million gp's (gold piecies/coins). Now would you rather be making tons and tons of money, or be powertraining and actually LOOSING money. (If you dont think powertraining looses money, think again because you will use food, and if you use guthans, you have to pay to repair!) So be smart, and pick slayer over powertraining!
